The best yoga classes are on Funbooker!

In today's fast-paced world, yoga can help you get away from it all and let go. But beyond its image as a practice associated with meditation, yoga is also an activity that gently mobilizes the body. A supple, loose-fitting or close-fitting outfit, a pair of slippers (or socks for a first contact) and you're ready to go (or ready to go, even if the majority of yoga practitioners are women). The end of a first yoga class always gives you a strange sensation. A feeling of coming back from somewhere else. To be both tranquilized and revitalized.

Do you want to relax, gain in flexibility, meditate or simply take a moment to disconnect from everyday life? Yoga classes are a real solution. Very much in vogue today, there are numerous courses available for an EVG, EVJF or even as part of a team building event. But how do you know which type of yoga is right for you?

Funbooker has selected a selection of quality courses, taught by certified professionals all over France, and explains everything you need to know about yoga to become a well-informed yogi!

What is yoga?

The practice of yoga has become increasingly popular in recent years. In the face of stressful everyday life, yoga classes offer many advantages. Teachers have become specialized and certified. The discipline is recognized and certified. Rediscovering inner calm, learning to breathe, stretch and reconnect with your body - the benefits are immense. Namaste!

History and principles of yoga

Yoga is an ancient Indian philosophical school. Today, it's a practice that combines body and mind, using a variety of physical postures and breathing methods to bring about intense relaxation. The basis of yoga is therefore asana (posture), pranayama (breath control) and dharana (concentration). Yoga can be practised by everyone, as there are many different types of practice. Depending on your ability, desire and goals, there's a form of yoga that's right for you!

The different types of yoga

Meditative yoga, tonic yoga, dynamic yoga, yoga to centre yourself, to learn to breathe, to listen to your body, to relax, to strengthen your muscles. There are many options to choose from.

  • Hatha is the most classical and traditional form, with a series of postures to help you relax and gain suppleness.
  • Ashtanga is the most dynamic form, forcing the body into a rhythmic sequence of postures. Vinyasa is derived from Ashtanga. Vinyasa is just as dynamic, but differs from Ashtanga in its freedom of movement.
  • Kundalini is for advanced yogis, and includes stable postures requiring skill, balance and flexibility.
  • Vinsaya is the most choreographed type, requiring strength and flexibility.
  • Bikram is a rather special type of yoga, as postures are performed in a room heated to 40°C for an extreme experience.
  • Nidra, on the other hand, focuses on the mind and extreme concentration for total disconnection.
  • Iyengar is a form of yoga that focuses on the alignment of the limbs for a faster sequence of postures.
  • Raja is a very ancient type of yoga, combining Hatha with meditation.

The benefits of yoga

Yoga is a discipline that brings enormous benefits to those who practice it regularly. Physically, you gain in flexibility, fluidity and tone, and regain vitality, strength, balance, muscular strength and vital energy. Inwardly, you learn to know your body better, to accept yourself, to love yourself, to gain self-confidence, to strengthen your mind and your inner balance. Yogis are better able to manage stress and anxiety, and feel more Zen on a daily basis.

Pregnant women can also take part in prenatal or postnatal yoga classes. This can help them to relax.

Yoga can be practised alongside other disciplines that help you to master your body and become fully aware of it, such as pilates, fitness, sophrology or gymnastics.

Relieving both body and mind, yoga has many benefits and advantages.

Yoga for children

Some yoga centers offer short classes, sessions or special sessions for children. These group classes, adapted to the child's level, are both fun and highly instructive. Yoga classes enable children to get to know their bodies, discover the discipline, learn about meditation and how to breathe.

It's a great way for children to burn off energy and relax at the same time. A good practice for children with anxiety or a slight lack of concentration! Children benefit both psychologically and physically from yoga. For their backs, their balance, their flexibility, but also their serenity.
