Activity description :

Suminagashi literally means "floating ink", and is an ancient Japanese artistic technique for marbling paper. Maurice, a specialist for over 38 years, invites you into his workshop to learn this art. Indulge in the magic of Suminagashi!

Course of the activity (3h) :

  • Welcome and tour of the workshop by Maurice.
  • Explanation of the art of paper decoration.
  • Each participant will have his or her own mucilage-filled vat in which to float the various colors provided. You'll learn how to disperse the colors and play with them.
  • You'll indulge in the liquid magic of colors that repel each other as you draw. What poetry!

Bonus: a surprise at the end of the workshop!

During this activity, you'll be able to create around 15 decorated leaves, real little original works of art, which you can take home with you, put up in a picture or give as gifts. Come and meet Maurice if you're looking for a creative activity that's different from the ordinary.

The workshop was very interesting, and Maurice is a passionate person who gladly shared his knowledge with us. The art of suminagashi is very relaxing and meditative. I'd love to go back.

I had a great time in Maurice's workshop. Relaxation, discovery and creation were the order of the day. 3 hours out of time, trying your hand at Suminagashi, the ancestor of vat marbled paper. Bonus: a little surprise at the end 😄!
