Activity description :

The Château de Champs-sur-Marne is characteristic of the 18thᵉ century pleasure houses built in the countryside, enabling a new art of living.

The monument was built between 1703 and 1708 by architects Pierre Bullet and Jean-Baptiste Bullet de Chamblain, at the request of Louis XIV's financier, Paul Poisson de Bourvallais. The château features sumptuous rocaille decorations, as well as chinoiserie decor painted in the mid-18ᵉ century by Christophe Huet.

The Château de Champs-sur-Marne 🏰

  • A furnished château with 900 collection pieces.
  • Illustrious tenants: the Princesse de Conti, the Dukes of La Vallière, the 18th-century Marquise de Pompadour, and men of letters such as Diderot , Voltaire, Chateaubriand and Proust.
  • An exemplary restoration.
  • A presidential residence: since 1935, the château has been an official residence of the French President, and since 1959, foreign heads of state have stayed here at the invitation of General de Gaulle.
  • Remarkable 85-hectare gardens inspired by Le Nôtre and awarded the "jardin remarquable" label.
