Activity description :

Isa invites you to discover the art of Zen pottery using the Raku technique, a mystical technique of Korean origin, reformed in Japan by a great tea master.

In 2 sessions, lasting a total of 6 hours, you'll create 1 or more pieces and take an active part in firing them. The first 3-hour session will be devoted to creating your piece, and the second 3-hour session (to be reserved during the 1st session) will enable you to glaze and "Rakuter" it.

Workshop schedule (2x3h) :

1st session (3h):

  • Welcome and presentation of the concept and workshop
  • Introduction to modeling techniques: plate, pinched, colombin
  • Model your own pieces under Isabelle's guidance
  • Plan your 2nd session (minimum 10 days later)

2nd session (3h):

  • Welcome and introduction to the Raku firing experience
  • Glazing of pieces, kiln set-up, loading, unloading and smoking
  • Explanation of the physico-chemical aspects of the entire process
  • Cleaning your own unique pieces to take home with you!

You'll be fascinated by the flames and magic of this mystical technique.

Delighted with this workshop. Isabelle passes on so much of her knowledge without counting the cost. She accompanies us while leaving us free in our creativity. I highly recommend it!
