Activity description :

Perrine will show you around her traditional Landes de Gascogne apiary, before whetting your palate with a tasting of several exquisite or surprising, but always local, honeys.

Course of the activity (2h30):

  • You'll start by learning about the life of a bee colony, and how to harvest this precious liquid.
  • You'll then learn how to handle the beekeeper's tools, and discover the different types of hives, old and new, used in the apiary: bournacs, straw hives, barrettes and frame hives. Whatever the season, there's always work to be done in the honey house!
  • Finally, you'll be ready to put on your overalls and gloves, and meet the bees in complete safety.
  • Now it's time to indulge your sweet tooth! You'll taste several varieties of honey with distinctive tastes, and learn to describe and name the flavors. The skills you'll acquire during this workshop will enable you to choose and buy honey properly in the future, and to learn more about the flowers in your region.
  • You'll leave with a surprise jar of local honey, which you'll have fun recognizing at home.

Thanks to this workshop, you'll be able to leave with all the beekeeping knowledge you've acquired, but above all a memo of French honeys.

Perrine is very approachable and a wonderful teacher. I spent 3 very pleasant hours which stimulated my interest in the world of bees. I'm going to continue.

The workshop with Perrine was really great! She's a dynamic teacher. I learned a lot I didn't know about conventional and natural beekeeping and bees in general. The theoretical part is a little longer than the actual visit to the hives, but the subject matter is too interesting to regret. In the end, it's tempting to become an amateur beekeeper 😉

Good afternoon. Hosted by Perrine, who shared her passion for bees with us. A very instructive and convivial afternoon, ending with a honey tasting.
