Covered passageways are an integral part of the capital's built heritage. They are a series of passageways built between buildings toimprove Parisian traffic flow. They are home to shopping arcades.

Located on the Right Bank and close to the Grands Boulevards, these structures were designed for a wealthy clientele. In the first half of the 19th century, there were over 130 passages in Paris, but they were abandoned in the wake of the Haussmann era and the advent of department stores. Every December, these places become illuminated with numerous decorations that delight young and old alike.
