Revolutionary events in Paris covered the period from 1789 to 1871: the 80 years it took for the Republic to become established. 1871 was the Third Republic, which lasted 70 years.
Where in Paris did the events of the revolution take place? They were everywhere: the Tuileries in 1789, the Pantheon in June 1848, the Hôtel de Ville in 1871. Yet the bulk of the troops came from the Faubourgs, notably St Marcel (east of Mont Ste Geneviève) and St Antoine. It's this district, the Faubourg St Antoine, which is the focus of our visit.
Our story unfolds mainly from the end of the 18th to the end of the 19th century. We start at Place de la Nation (a concept born on the eve of the 1789 Revolution). We'll then move on to the center of the Faubourg St Antoine, before moving on to the Bastille.
From there, we'll visit the eastern Marais, then finish with Voltaire, on Place Léon Blum, known as Voltaire for a century.
