Tyrolean traverse: everything you need to know about this sensational activity!

What is a zip-line?

Principle

Tyrolean traverse is an activity that involves moving through the air, thanks to a pulley attached to a cable or rope. You're attached to the pulley by your harness, enabling you to soar several meters above the ground in complete safety.

Originally designed for utilitarian purposes, zip lines are now a popular activity in leisure parks, especially those offering accrobranche courses. There are also giant zip lines, allowing you to fly over impressive natural landscapes for several hundred meters.

Safety

To ensure your safety, zip-lining is always supervised by a professional instructor. He or she will check that you are properly harnessed.

Before you start, your instructor will brief you on how to use the equipment. He or she will also remind you of the safety instructions to be observed, such as:

  • Make sure the sling is not twisted before you start.
  • Make sure no one is in the path of the zipline.
  • Do not try to brake with your hands.

Zip-lining is also subject to weather conditions. For example, in strong winds, access may be limited.

Where can I go zip-lining?

At a bungee jumping center

In France, many natural sites are home to bungee jumping centers. These centers offer several thrilling activities, including zip-lining. Most often, these are giant zip lines, on courses of 1 to 2 kilometers.

This option is ideal if you want to enjoy an adrenalin rush during your vacation, or simply try out zip-lining in a breathtaking natural setting.

In an accrobranche park

Tyrolean traverse is also the star activity at tree-climbing centers. In the middle of the forest or in a park, tree climbing is an increasingly popular activity, with children and adults alike. It's an opportunity to take a breath of fresh air in the forest, while getting your adrenaline pumping.

All accrobranche centers generally have a zip line. Some even stretch for several hundred meters, for an adventure among the trees you won't soon forget.
