Karting: everything you need to know about this activity

Are you a car buff? Have you always envied the Formula 1 drivers who criss-cross the asphalt in their racing cars? Why not give karting a try?

What is karting?

Karting is a motor sport that lets you drive around a track in a kart, on circuits ranging from 700 to 1,500 meters in length and eight meters in width.

The kart is a one-seater mini-car that lets you drive low to the ground and enjoy the thrill of the ride. This driving activity is above all a speed sport.

Timed, you complete several laps of the circuit, trying to be faster than your rivals; the winner is the one with the fastest time.

Types of formula

Karting centers always offer several formulas:

  • Rental: allow you to enjoy the joys of driving, with free or timed laps on a non-competitive basis.
  • Competition: training with free laps, followed by timed races. Some circuits even organize Grand Prix competitions, with medals and podiums for the winners.
  • Introductory course: for those wishing to learn karting.

Safety rules

Karting is not an activity to be taken lightly. A number of safety rules must be observed, or you may be excluded from the track. These include

  • Choose a suitable helmet and fasten it
  • Do not cross the track or drive on the grass.
  • Do not stop in the middle of the track.
  • Prevent maneuvers by raising your hand
  • Do not drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Wear closed shoes and avoid loose clothing such as scarves.

This list is not exhaustive; the karting instructor will remind you of all the safety rules before you start driving.

Where and when can you go karting?

Karting takes place on a track or circuit. There are several types:

  • Indoor karting: inside a complex such as Aerokart
  • Outdoor karting

Karting is the universal activity par excellence. It's perfectly suited to team building, children's birthdays or bachelor parties. Many centers offer multi-activity packages for maximum fun.
